Cardwell
Updated: 27-May-2008Situated 200 kilometres south of Cairns. Cardwell is the doorway to Hinchinbrook and Orpheus Island and home to Port Hinchinbrook.
Tropical seaside Cardwell is linked to Cairns and Townsville by road and rail. Cardwell is a "natural nexus" for seaward and landward sightseeing trips. Adventure opportunities abound.
Landward the hinterland and coastal escarpment hosts prolific rainforest wilderness, gorges, rivers and creeks. Rimming the shore are beaches, mangroves and estuaries. Ideal natural environments for: relaxation; photography; wildlife viewing; walking; hiking; swimming; kayaking; and cycling.
Seaward the Hinchinbrook Channel provides sheltered access to inspiring and rugged landscape scenery, recreational boating and fishing resources. Further east lies Hinchinbrook Island; Gould Island; Garden Island; and the pristine coral reef fringed Brook Islands Group. Beyond is the Great Barrier Reef.
Cardwell hosts Port Hinchinbrook at Oyster Point; consisting of Waterfront Village Resort, Accommodation choices and Marina. Providing maritime access to the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef Lagoon.
Plan vacation travel to Cardwell. Allow five days to "come stay and play the Great Green Way,"
